In the wake of constant terror related shootings on every continent and the almost daily related media reports a new interest has emerged in biometric methods of identification. From face recognition systems in  daily use at airports to hand and iris scanning systems found more commonly in the workplace, biometric identification is arising as a way to authenticate that we are who we say we are. The field of biometric authentication is dynamic and changing daily. Since the landscape of biometric identification software and hardware is also complex, this introduction, written in layman’s terms, is a good way for any practitioner to remain up to date on the latest approaches as well as to earn two hours of continuing education credit.
