The range of professionals involved in any given financial fraud investigation can include financial auditors and internal auditors, forensic accountants and fraud examiners. Sorting out the exact investigative responsibilities of each of these disciplines and the specific professional standards which guide them can be quite a challenge for novice fraud examiners and forensic accountants. Making the players and the playing field even more confusing, not only do the professional standards often overlap from one profession to the next, but they differ, often in small, critical details. This lecture is designed to sort out the tangle by clearly defining in plain language what the applicable practice standards require of each type of professional the beginning fraud examiner is likely to encounter on an investigative engagement.
